Historical walking tours have always been a favorite pastime of mine when I'm in a new city. There's something about leaving the confines of a comfy air conditioned bus and setting out on foot with a well educated guide that really makes me feel like I've truly experienced a city. But there's still something "classroom" about the whole thing. I mean, the exciting part is you're on the streets, exposed to elements, and experiencing all the city has to offer. There's rush of excitement and danger to the whole experience that sometimes, not all the time - but sometimes, gets shattered with a less than enthusiastic tour guide talking about, well - history. So myself, along with the help of my many talented friends, decided - "What if you have professional actors giving tours? And what if you add the element of a storyline, introducing interesting and entertaining characters that help support the history?" I mean, I think it's something that our teachers are battling on a daily basis - how to make learning fun. And, in my opinion, actors are the perfect answer. We are trained to be storytellers, and above all, entertaining.
Now, maybe I'm a bit biased, because I am an actor. But people seem to be responding. And our first tour, Broadway or Bust, is proving to be a big success! The subject matter is something we, as actors, are all passionate about and feel honored to honor. But stayed tuned because we have lots of other tours in the works. Pretty soon, no trip to New York City will be complete without a unique walking tour experience that is Guerrilla Tours!
